btw, I just had someone more or less tell me that Obama and Pelosi were privately signaling Joe should step down because he's going to lose to Trump because they're "compromised" so that happened...

Y'all are absolutely batshit. Just so you know. There is no fucking multiverse reality where Pelosi and Obama want Trump to win. None. Zero. The fact that anyone would SAY that to me is a very good sign you've completely lost the plot.

AnarchoNinaWrites

Like, that is a REAL THING that just happened in my replies.

"Obama was not a good president. Mediocre at best. Pelosi also blocked or refused to entertain multiple bills that would’ve been amazing. They’re compromised/irrelevant."

I mean at least go with "they haven't actually publicly said that, Politico is just reporting what THEY say more than a dozen people close to them have said Pelosi and Obama think."

I would still laugh at you, and I wouldn't respect that reply, but at least it wouldn't make me say "holy shit you folks are just as big a cult as Trumpism is" while questioning your grasp on reality. You could at least ARGUE the media is lying - "they're compromised?"

WOW. Absolutely BATSHIT.

For those who'd like to read the report and make up their own mind:

I think I caught the gist of it just fine, but you never know. Reading is fundamental and all that.

@AnarchoNinaWrites

Politico is the official house journal for "centrist" and conservative Democrats spilling their guts through "unnamed sources". They may hate the Left with a passion, but their Capitol Hill reporting is still, at least for now, at least silver standard. I trust them a tad more than I trust the Bezos-Murdoch Times.

@AnthonyJK Yeah, I know they have sources inside the mainstream party. Liberals only ever say Politico is bad when they don't like the sound of what they're saying.

Either way tho, nobody has to take my word for it, they can just read the article and decide for themselves. I don't read the New York Times, but I did read this:

politico.com/news/2024/07/11/o

And that doesn't sound very fucking good for team "these are not the droids you're looking for."

@AnarchoNinaWrites Pelosi didn’t even say Biden should quit or anything but that did not stop the NYT (and others) from claiming that she did.

@MisuseCase I don't read the New York Times.

You can read what I read, and make up your own mind.

@AnarchoNinaWrites I don’t know about Obama but regarding Pelosi, the NYT was referring to (misquoting, perhaps deliberately) the same thing. They’re all taking their cues from the same place.

@MisuseCase I just told you, I don't read the New York Times.

Read it or don't. Believe it or don't. I think it's pretty clear the wheels are coming off this train but you're an adult and you can make up your own mind.

@AnarchoNinaWrites

That interaction was wild...

We went from democrat fanatics (bad) to biden fanatics (wtf‽)... How and why?

If what matters is voting against trump (because he's a fascist) AND voting democrats (because no other party has a chance), then what does it matter (to them*) if it's biden, harris, clinton or a pair of worn sneakers?

@AnarchoNinaWrites seemed more like the three second memory thing we were talking about. like the topic abruptly changed to be no longer about what it started as. I did a quick internet search and… TIL

>>>

The fallacy of ignoratio elenchi is committed when an argument purporting to establish a particular conclusion is instead directed to providing a different conclusion. The premises "miss the point"--the reasoning may seam plausible in itself, and yet the argument misfires

@AnarchoNinaWrites it’s, to be a little obnoxious, interesting to me as a character quirk potentially for fiction. Someone who only responds to what they’ve just been prompted by with little or no memory of what happened before, like a chat bot. Or an Alice in Wonderland tea patron

@bri_seven I honestly couldn't fucking tell you what was going on in that thread but I had to laugh when the implication was "the only reason to ask Joe Biden to step down is to let Trump win" and when I countered with "so you think Obama and Pelosi want to let Trump win" I got "they're compromised."

I'm not gonna try to parse that level of disconnect from reality.
