One thing I will say is miss me with "neoliberalism is not fascism" debates because even though I could argue the point with you about why they're so similar, we're past that.
Doing genocides? Is fascism. Empowering a violent, racialized police state? Is fascism. Hunting down and building a vast prison archipelago for migrants? Is fascism. Doing capitalism on a boiling planet when you KNOW it'll kill billions? Is fascism
A fascist, is someone who does fascism. Both parties ran on doing fascism
And some of you are just itching to hit that reply button to scream at me that "they are NOT the same" even though that's not at all what I said. I just said, both parties are running on doing fascism and doing fascism makes one a fascist. The reasons WHY are irrelevant; fascists are people who do fascism. And you cannot "stop fascism" by agreeing to do "some fascism, but not as much as the other fascists." Which is why the Dems couldn't turn out the vote to stop fascism like they did in 2020.
The very same "wise centrists" who just lead you to ash and ruin, are pretty sure that the problem is "the voters are wrong" even though that is categorically impossible because the job is to get elected, and everyone but the people who had full control over the campaign and decided to run on an even worse version of the platform that lost to Trump in 2016, instead of the one that beat him in 2020 is to blame.
If you're dumb enough to go for it? We didn't have anything to talk about anyway.
I cannot stress this enough - the job, is to get elected. It just is. The Harris campaign and the larger democratic party chose enabling a genocide, giving handies to racist murderpigs, and hunting down migrants over getting elected. Gaslighting people about inflation and Covid probably didn't help either. But nobody put a gun to their head to MAKE them abandon their successful 2020 platform to embrace fascism and run back Clinton's neocon campaign from 2016.
They did that. They're responsible.
What a great number of liberals seem to have learned about fascism over the past six years is that "fascism is what the GOP does; if the GOP isn't the one doing it, it's not fascism" and "fascism is only when the violence affects me and people who look like me; if the violence targets people who don't look like me or is exported beyond my neighborhood, then it's not fascism."
This is hogwash, but also extremely on brand for Americans. But you aren't antifascists. Not even close.
@AnarchoNinaWrites But I am not a trade unionist.
@AnarchoNinaWrites
yeah
we pretty much invented it
was Ford that financed Hitler
the late 19th cen 'robber barons', etc
lessons learned came home to roost with the 'Chicago School'
thing:
fascism's thing
analogous to small pox
infects *everything* it touches
the orig 'neo-con' thing:
"No more Stalins, No more Hitlers" quickly became "We must become the stalins/hitlers of the future! To save ourselves!"
@AnarchoNinaWrites
going all the way back to Smith's Wealth of Nations
(I'm still the only person I know who suffered thru that horror)
Can 'Capitalism' be salvaged?
ehh, ,
ummm
ok
beyond me
*however*
1st up,
Disconnect 'Capitalism' from 'Merchantilism'
these are *not* the same
Corner shoppes are nice.
A place to exchange goods & services
useful
now, does anyone need capitalists?
maybe
only if they, too, have skin in the game
else
game's not worth the candle
@AnarchoNinaWrites
I've got some capital
you come to me & tell me you can grow/make $commodity but need $$
ok
I think it's cool
or not
if cool, we do 'it' & it works?
great, 'profit!'
we do it & fail?
we *both loose!* *TOGETHER*
simple
no harm
no foul
no hard feeling
nobody goes to prison
do better next time
But
that isn't what we have
Fucking capitalists
@gwynnion
@AnarchoNinaWrites
oh
&
fwiw
John Locke was just an asshole
toss his bullshit in the compost & your plants will die
@AnarchoNinaWrites already there's cries to shut up and put up, fall in line, and vote harder in 2028. They'll never change, it's simply not in that party's nature. You can bet the new DNC chair they're voting in will be even more sympathetic to the causes of the far right, in actions if not rhetoric.
@RebelGeek99 Yeah; I've been calling it Weimar American for over a decade, for a reason. If anything, 2020 was the aberration; especially given that we know how Biden governed AFTER running on a platform about dismantling fascism and pushing back the fascist tide across vast portions of the state system.
@AnarchoNinaWrites @RebelGeek99 "Over a decade?" I pretty much gave up with "The Patriot" act.
@phaedral @AnarchoNinaWrites I pretty much tuned them out in 2012 after the ACA was compromised on, the crooks of Wall Street had been absolved of ruining millions of people's lives, and Obama's immaculate PR campaign gave it all a thin veneer of IDpol to make it palatable. As the gentler kinder looking face of the duocracy, obsessed with means testing and openly seeking the bipartisan approval of fascists, I've been calling them the Vichy Dems for a few years now.
@AnarchoNinaWrites Americans were not going to elect the black lady, moving to the "left" would not have helped.
You say arpeggio, I say archipelago
Let's call the whole thing off
(Agree with everything you're saying, just finding tiny joys in malapropism)
@trochee For once, Imma blame the spell checker. :) Usually it IS me, but this time I just clicked that button.
There is no broadly agreed upon definition of fascism.
I am aware of more than 20 competing definitions.
@photoncollector Go fuck yourself.
Great chat.
@AnarchoNinaWrites
I merely stated a fact.
@photoncollector I am pretty sure "go fuck yourself" was not ambiguous.
You'd like to parse definitions of fascism, and I'd rather dive naked into a swimming pool full of razorblades than bandy wits with the likes of you.
We have nothing else to say to each other; now get on yer fucking bike.
@AnarchoNinaWrites @photoncollector I am an adult leader in a youth organisation. One of the (tragic) issues we deal with is child sexual abuse. We get training on the appropriate response (and yes, it is mandatory to report).
One of the issues the training covers is self-doubt. Is what I am witnessing fit the definition of CSA? It is possible to get so caught up in definitions that you dismiss what you are witnessing, and talk yourself out of doing something.
The trainings' recommondation is to listen to your gut. If your gut is telling you "this is bad" then your gut is probably right, and you should go ahead and report it.
I reckon fascism is similar
@AnarchoNinaWrites @photoncollector If your use of definitions serves the purpose of preventing you from taking action and making you forget that bad things are bad then you have a very bad habit and should think critically about who taught it to you.
@photoncollector the disagreement of.fascists on whether theyre doing fascism is irrelevant
@AnarchoNinaWrites The line from Neil Young's "Keep on Rockin' in the Free World" runs through my head whenever I think about this:
"We got a kinder, gentler, machine gun hand."
