Part of capitalism is making empathy painful. Every panhandler or crowdfunding link hurts. You can't help everyone, much less save them. It's a system that makes you close yourself off, to try to stop it all from burning right through you.

Enforced precariousness means that we can help each other until we can't. This negative socialism is distributed ruthlessly, and it keeps everyone in pain.
